Good Morning Dear Growers and Happy New Year!
It's incredible to think that January has already come and gone.
I have been working on themes to address this year, so expect to see much more of me out in the field, more webinars and very possibly in work-shop style situations.
But first.... where are we currently?
Pruning Season Update!
Many of the larger producers have already started, and smaller operations are gearing up to follow suit.
We’ve scheduled a Pruning Workshop for February 8th! The time and location will be confirmed by GGANS shortly, but for now, please save the date. We’ll be covering best practices for both Hybrids and Vinifera, marking the first “Best Practice” session of the season. I’m excited to see you all there!
A big part of best practices is also understanding what not to do, and the consequences our actions can have on our vines. To help with this, I’ve included a link to a great video: Breaking Bad | Virtual Viticulture Academy.

Please try to watch the 56-minute video before the workshop on February 8th. Set aside some time, maybe grab a charcuterie board, and let’s work on breaking some bad pruning habits together!
I’ve also attached the link to the Grape Bud Hardiness Report for January 7th and 8th. We’ve been experiencing consistently cold weather, but nothing that’s likely to harm the vines.
A quick reminder: the GGANS AGM is scheduled for Sunday, March 2nd at the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre at Acadia University. I look forward to seeing everyone there!
Lastly, I’d love your feedback on adding virtual, informal grower discussions every two weeks for about an hour. It’ll be a chance to share concerns, stay connected with the grower community, and support each other as we move forward.
Keep an eye out for a short survey asking for your preferences on timing. Your input is valuable as I continue shaping our viticulture program.
Thank you all for your time this week, and I look forward to seeing you out in the field.
Cheers!
Katarina.
