We’ve had quite a bit of rain over the past two weeks, and it is having an impact on harvest conditions across the region.
Brix levels are continuing to climb slowly (see the table below), but the recent rainfall has resulted in increased berry splitting and disease pressure in some cultivars.
Please keep a close eye on your vineyards for Botrytis and sour rot, particularly where fruit has been damaged. Split berries are vulnerable to wasp and insect feeding, which can create additional wounds and increase the risk of sour rot. Some locations have already started harvesting Osceola Muscat due to splitting.
Tight clusters and humid canopies can further accelerate disease development. The weekend provided a good opportunity to get preventative sprays on where needed.
Please note: The Brix values in the table below are from samples collected during the week of September 9. I’ll post another quick update later this week once I receive the results from this week’s sampling.
